Community Outreach at St. Francis
St. Francis Reaches Out

Service to others is a major focus of this congregation. A portion of general income is allocated for outreach and administered by the Outreach Committee. Contributions are made to national, local assistance, and emergency programs. Members are active in a variety of community organizations including, Habitat for Humanity, Downeast AIDS Network, Hospice and Jail Programs. Parishioners provide transportation, meals and personal assistance to each other and to neighbors. A portion of the revenue from the annual fair is donated to a local community service organization. Since 1997 we have been paired with a parish and school in Haiti, exchanging visits with them and giving assistance as needed. Ten percent of the money raised in a recent capital campaign was earmarked for outreach. Small group meetings, community forums, and prayers were a parish-wide discernment process that led to the establishment in September, 2007, of a Head Start/Day Care center on the peninsula.

Besides considerable financial support, members of the Parish established the classroom library, volunteer to assist with daily programs, and do the laundry.
