Altar servers and lectors play a critical role in the liturgy of the Eucharist. They provide an aura of dignity to the proceedings and enhance the flow of the service as they assist at the altar.
The Intercessor leads the Prayers of the People.
The Crucifer carries the cross in the procession, lights the altar candles, holds the book for the Gospel reading, and receives the alms and oblations when they are brought to the chancel.
Chalice bearers help to set the table for the Eucharist, serve the wine at communion, carry the torches in the procession.
Lectors read the lessons (one from the Old Testament and one from the New), and lead the congregation in the Psalm reading (when it is spoken).
Altar servers and lectors serving on this committee provides members of the congregation with the opportunity to become involved in the worship service. Diana Brown is willing to train anyone who wishes to take part.
